Vertigo,
Treated Fast

The room spinning, a sense of tilting, or dizziness that hits when you move your head? Vertigo usually comes from the inner ear, and many causes can be treated, sometimes in a single visit. Get same-day, ENT-focused care for vertigo, in person or by video.

What Is Vertigo?

Vertigo is the false sense that you or your surroundings are spinning or moving when nothing actually is. It’s a specific kind of dizziness, different from feeling lightheaded or faint. Vertigo most often comes from the inner ear, which houses your sense of balance. Common inner-ear causes include BPPV (loose crystals that trigger brief spinning with head movement), vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis (inflammation, often after a virus), and Ménière’s disease (fluid changes in the inner ear). Less often, vertigo comes from the brain or nervous system, which is why a sudden, severe episode with other neurological symptoms needs urgent evaluation.

Vertigo Symptoms

Common symptoms include:
A spinning sensation, like the room is moving around you
Dizziness triggered or worsened by head movement
A feeling of tilting, swaying, or being pulled to one side
Nausea or vomiting with the spinning
Trouble keeping your balance during an episode
Brief, intense spinning when rolling over or looking up
Vertigo along with ringing, hearing changes, or ear fullness

Not sure if what you're feeling is true vertigo? An ENT-focused visit can help sort it out.

How ENT Urgent Care helps

Most vertigo starts in the inner ear, and the right treatment depends on which cause is at work. BPPV often responds to a few simple repositioning movements; inflammation-related vertigo settles with time and supportive care; Ménière’s disease needs a longer plan. An ENT-focused exam sorts out the cause.

During your visit, your ENT provider may ask about your symptoms and triggers, watch your eye movements, check your hearing and balance, and, when BPPV is the cause, guide you through repositioning movements that can relieve symptoms quickly.

Treatment may include:

Virtual ENT Care

Virtual ENT care can help with reviewing your symptoms and triggers, deciding how urgently you need to be seen, and planning next steps.

In-Person Visit

An in-person visit is often needed to examine your eye movements, check your balance, and guide you through repositioning movements, which are done hands-on in the clinic.

What causes vertigo?
Most vertigo comes from the inner ear. The most common cause is BPPV, where tiny loose crystals trigger brief spinning with head movement. Other inner-ear causes include vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis (inflammation, often after a virus) and Ménière's disease (fluid changes). Less often, vertigo comes from the brain or nervous system. An ENT exam helps identify which cause is at work and the right treatment.
Sometimes, yes. When BPPV is the cause, a guided set of repositioning movements done in the office can relieve symptoms quickly, often in a single visit. Other causes, like inflammation or Ménière's disease, need a different plan and may take longer to settle. The first step is an exam to find the cause.
Most vertigo comes from the inner ear and is not dangerous, even when it feels intense. The warning signs that need emergency care are vertigo with a severe headache, double vision, slurred speech, weakness, numbness, or trouble walking, which can point to a problem in the brain. If your vertigo is recurrent, tied to head movement, or paired with hearing changes, an ENT visit is the right place to start.
Brief, intense spinning when you roll over, lie down, or look up is the classic pattern of BPPV. It happens when tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear become dislodged and move into a part of the balance system where they don't belong. It's common and very treatable, usually with repositioning movements your ENT provider can guide you through.
