Dizziness,
Evaluated Fast

Lightheaded, foggy, unsteady, or just off? Dizziness is one of the most common reasons people see a doctor, and it has many possible causes, several tied to the ear. Get same-day, ENT-focused care to find out what’s behind it, in person or by video.

What Is Dizziness?

Dizziness is a catch-all word for several different sensations: feeling lightheaded or faint, unsteady on your feet, foggy or detached, or like the room is spinning. Pinning down which one you feel is the first step, because each points toward different causes. Spinning (vertigo) usually comes from the inner ear. Lightheadedness often comes from blood pressure, dehydration, or medications. Unsteadiness can come from the inner ear, the nerves, vision, or muscle and joint problems. Because the ear plays such a central role in balance, an ENT evaluation is a logical place to start when dizziness keeps coming back.

How ENT Urgent Care helps

Dizziness has many possible sources, and a big part of getting better is figuring out which one is at work. Because the inner ear is central to balance, ENT-focused providers are well placed to evaluate dizziness, especially when it comes with ear symptoms or spinning.

During your visit, your ENT provider may ask detailed questions about what your dizziness feels like and what triggers it, watch your eye movements and balance, check your hearing, and review your medications and medical history to narrow down the cause.

Treatment may include:

Virtual or In-Person care?

Choose the care option that fits your symptoms and schedule.
Virtual ENT Care

Virtual ENT care works well for describing what your dizziness feels like, reviewing your history and medications, and deciding how urgently and where you should be seen.

In-Person Visit

An in-person visit may be needed to examine your eye movements and balance, check your hearing, or guide you through repositioning or rehabilitation movements.

What's the difference between dizziness and vertigo?
Vertigo is a specific type of dizziness: a false sense that you or the room is spinning, usually coming from the inner ear. Dizziness is the broader term that also includes feeling lightheaded, faint, foggy, or unsteady, which can come from many sources beyond the ear. Telling your provider exactly what you feel helps point to the cause and the right treatment.
Most dizziness is not dangerous, but some patterns need urgent care: dizziness with a severe headache, chest pain, fainting, slurred speech, weakness, numbness, double vision, or trouble walking. These can signal a heart or brain problem. For dizziness that's recurrent, tied to head movement, or paired with ear symptoms, an ENT evaluation is a sensible starting point.
Often, yes, especially when the ear is involved. ENT-focused providers evaluate the inner ear and balance system, check your hearing, and look for patterns like positional spinning or ear fullness. When the cause turns out to be outside the ear, such as blood pressure or a medication, your provider can point you to the right next step. The goal is to find the source, not just treat the feeling.
Yes. A number of common medications, including some blood pressure drugs, sedatives, and others, list dizziness as a side effect, and combinations can add up. That's why your ENT provider will review what you're taking as part of the evaluation. Sometimes a medication adjustment, made with the prescribing doctor, resolves the problem.
